DriveABLE

Many medical conditions can affect driving. In the past, decisions about driving had to be based on best judgment or educated opinion. People had to make the decision whether someone was safe to drive or not. Now, evidence-based decisions are possible. The DriveABLE program was developed through extensive award-winning research. The program is highly effective in assessing medically at-risk drivers of any age. The East Central Florida Memory Clinic is now working with DriveABLE to provide assessments for medically at-risk drivers in our community. This page provides provides information that can also be found on the DriveABLE website. Contact us to schedule an assessment.

Who does DriveABLE assess?

The DriveABLE assessment is for drivers of any age who may have medical conditions, be taking medications that can impair mental abilities or have minor physically disabling conditions (e.g., arthritis). DriveABLE does not assess drivers with severely disabling physical conditions requiring vehicle modifications, and does not provide therapeutic interventions or in-car retraining. DriveABLE does provide an objective assessment to measure the loss of specific functional abilities to identify the medically unsafe driver while allowing safe drivers to pass.
